Create free time for yourself
Create free time for yourself. I am not saying every hour of the day, take a thirty minute break. But every few days, do something that you love and doesn't stress you out. In high school, running and my activities were my free time. Granted it took a large portion of my day but I loved what I was doing. The constant pressure of studying for tests and completing homework assignments could overwhelm someone. Same thing with work. Eight hours at a desk job isn't always the best thing. But, we all must find some free time and do something enjoyable. We will feel gratified in the end and the distresses of life will vanished for a period of time. The first week of April for me could be a good example of this. That week, I had...
several tests in classes since we were assigned a large load of homework and the teachers wanted to see if actually did the work. Advanced Placement exams were coming up shortly and most scholarship deadlines were this week. My life at home was in shambles because all I was doing was filling out papers and studying for hours yet no breaks in between. School made me feel so weak but once I got to track practice, I felt like a new person. These were my friends that wouldn't care if I failed in class or had a huge zit on my face. It's such a great feeling to be in control and running fast with my brothers beside me. Then three hours of practice later, I would go to Students Against Destructive Decisions(SADD Club). We would train for three hours per day that week for a weekend retreat. But the thing was these people were all different races and ages. None of us cared who we hung out with. We were just there to promote safe decisions by teenagers and have fun with each other. The simplest things in someone forgetting their lines made us laugh and just rejoice together. After SADD Club, I would go home around 10 P.M. and do grunt work for hours. Then sleep for little hours of the night. These sequence of events repeated for three straight weeks. I would have never survived those weeks without doing those things I love. I can't forget about the Math State Meet but more on that later.
My point is give yourself free time every now and then. Then fill-up that time slot with something you love to do. Whether its just laying around listening to music for hours or going bowling with some friends. Just go out and have fun!
